Ah, Salzburg...the birthplace of Mozart, one of the most picturesque cities in Europe, and the victim of our debauchery this past weekend. I'll start my update with the weekend in Austria then move backwards to Oktoberfest. This was one of the most random, spontaneous experiences of my life, and I loved every moment of it. We went to the train station on Saturday morning, and made our train about 30 seconds before it pulled out of the station. After a 2 hour train ride to Austria, where I was really really hoping I could find a change station to get some cash from my credit card, because I had zero and my credit card wasn't working at ATM's and my debit card made such a nice meal for an ATM that they decided not to cough it back up. I came so close yet so far...I had forgotten to sign the back of my credit card, so this bastard told me it was against the law to give me money, even if I could verify my signature in front of his face with my hand and about 8 other forms of ID...so alas, I borrowed money from all my friends the entire weekend...thanks guys!! Next, we found out that there are 6 youth hostels in Salzburg, 2 of which are closed for the season, and only 1 of which doesn't require a membership...simple decision there, let's hope they have a room. Luckily they had one left, so we ended up having a sleepover of 6 people in a 4 person room, it felt like junior high again, it was great...as soon as the lights went down the questions came out, "so...who do you like?" and so forth, it took us about 3 hours to fall asleep. Travelling without an agenda is my way to travel. I had no expectations of this trip, and we just wandered the city, found some really awesome things, i took about 120 pics, 72 of which are on film so i'm not sure when they'll make it online, but i'll post digital ones here soon. The next morning I randomly met an Australian guy on his way to Munich, and ended up hosting an Australian, a Canadian, and a New Yorker, who all met each other the day before they met me. They did the whole Oktoberfest thing and then came by my place and we went to the bar in my basement and had a hilarious conversation with 2 old crazy German guys until 4am. I've never heard so many dirty Australian jokes in my life, nor seen an Australian laughing so hard at them...oh Jagermeister... Oh ya and i forgot to mention that i got carded for a beer in austria...damn you baby cheeks...mind you the drinking age in austria is 16, but let's hope she just knew i was american and wanted to verify that i was 21... So it's been a great weekend, and I hope all of you are doing well, congrats if you made it through all of my rambling. Ciao! Adam
